Shareholders
Guarantee for the Company’s economical stability are its shareholders: HDI-Gerling International Holding – company of the third-largest German insurance group Talanx (the new name of the HDI Group), which holds 94% of the capital of HDI Insurance, and the Central Cooperative Union – organization with traditions in Bulgaria, which holds 6% of the capital.
Talanx is a multibrand company that operates highly successfully with various brand names in the financial-services sector. HDI is its oldest and strongest brand name. Therefore Talanx is a young and dynamic company that can look back on one hundred years of history.
HDI (Union for civil liability of the German Industry) was founded as industrial insurance company in Frankfurt in 1903. In 1919 the seat of the Group was moved to Hannover. In 1966 was founded the Joint Stock Company Hannover Re - one of the five leading reinsurance companies worldwide. In 1996 the Joint Stock Company ASPECTA, having its seat in Hamburg, has joined to the Group. In 1998 started the process of renaming the HDI Group as Talanx. In 2005 Talanx acquired the operating insurance companies of the Gerling Group.
As a multibrand company Talanx operates in 150 countries across the world in the following four segments:
- Property / Casualty Primary Insurance.
- Life Primary Insurance.
- Reinsurance.
- Financial services.
Between 1993 and 2007 the HDI Group (later the Talanx Group) becomes one of the most powerful and influential insurance companies in Germany: whereas in 1993 it ranked eighth with premium income of about 3.7 billion Euro, in 2007 it is the third-largest German insurance group with a premium income of nearly 20 billion Euro. In recent years Talanx has recorded the fastest growth among Europe's largest insurance groups. The rating agency Standard&Poor's has given Talanx a financial strength rating of A+/stable (very good).
The reinsurance segment is a massive pillar of the Talanx Group. Its main component is the Hannover Ruckversicherungs AG (Hannover Re). Since it was set up in 1966 Hannover Re has developed quite remarkably. Whereas in 1985 it ranked 10th in the world, today it is up among the top five. In addition, through its reciprocal connections with the international market, Hannover Re guarantees independent and long-term reinsurance cover for the companies of the Talanx Group.
Central Cooperative Union (CCU) was founded in 1946 as a voluntary integration of regional, branch and other cooperative unions. Today up 34 regional cooperative unions are members of the CCU. They unite 871 co-operations all over Bulgaria. The CCU has share participations in numerous companies like the Pension-Insurance Company “RODINA”, the Coca-Cola Hellenic Bottling Company Bulgaria etc.
